Obituary for Glen Swan

Glen was most recently known as Pops or Pop Pop. His favorite person in the whole world was his wonderful wife of 54 years Mary Ann. They have two children, seven grandchildren and a great granddaughter.

He was a country boy at heart, a master craftsman and perfectionist who could build anything, and an entrepreneur who bravely and boldly started his own business (Swan Tile) that served clients for 30 years with a keen eye for detail.

Most of all, his life is marked by his faith in Christ and the lives he touched through his humble heart and his work in the church. He once said that his objective in life was “to serve the Lord my God with all my heart and all my soul.”

He accepted Christ at age 7. Over the years, he was a member of Pharaoh Baptist Church, Immanuel Baptist Church in Henryetta, four churches in Tulsa (Belview, Gracemont, Garnett Road and Victory) and Jubilee Christian Center in Okmulgee.

He taught Sunday school, drove a bus to bring kids to church, helped with construction projects at Camp Victory in Mannford, served on prayer teams, was a close friend to pastors and a supporter of ministries like Filling The Void and World Prayer Band.

Glen always enjoyed the outdoors, spending time on his parents’ farm near Okemah, going fishing with friends like Richard Cookson, working with his hands, eating sweets, firing up the charcoal grill for his family and going on drives. He once landed a 15-lb northern pike in MN.

He also had a fondness for big rigs. He often waved to semi-truck drivers, was curious about what they were hauling, and wanted to get behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler himself. Thanks to Tulsa Tech, his wish came true in March 2024.

Glen was also a Veteran. He was a proud Navy man, serving in the SeaBees where he spent a considerable portion of his enlistment in Sicily. He also studied drafting at OSU’s Okmulgee Tech and graduated from Pharaoh High School in 1965.

God blessed Glen’s life with the greater gifts of quietness, stillness, peace and contentment. They were some of his earthly rewards for all of his tireless labor and hard work. He was soft-spoken by nature, a man of few but powerful words such as “always pray for your family.”

He was preceded in death by his parents Delmar and Gladys and is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and his sister Barbara and her three children.

A time to celebrate the impact of Glen’s life will be held on Saturday, August, 23, at 11 a.m. at Rogers Funeral Home in Henryetta. Pastor Dale Litsey is officiating. A private graveside ceremony for his family will follow the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, please make a gift in Glen’s honor to Filling The Void which cares for the homeless and needy in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Florida and Iowa. You can give online at www.fillingthevoid.com or send a check to Filling The Void, PO Box 1134, Broken Arrow, OK, 74013.
