Stephen Richard Ward – February 6, 1950 — August 22, 2025 – Stigler

Stephen Richard Ward, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, leaving behind a rich legacy of love and talent. Born on February 6, 1950, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Stephen was the third child of Clarence Mathew Ward and Zelpha Molene Ward. He was welcomed into a lively household alongside his siblings Clarence Jr., Sharon Gale, and Michael.

Growing up in Tulsa, Stephen was an active youth who attended Sequoyah Elementary School and Grover Cleveland Jr. High, where he notably participated in wrestling. He graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1969 and, amid the Vietnam War, chose to serve his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army. His service took him to Germany, where he honed his skills in mechanics and engineering.

Stephen had a lifelong passion for speed, whether it was through track racing, bicycles, or working on classic cars like the 54 Chevy, 59 Chevy, and 69 Buick. His weekends often revolved around car projects and building engines, reflecting his dedication to his craft. He could accurately diagnose a car’s needs just by listening to its sounds. In his early years, Stephen worked at the neighborhood APCO gas station, where he became a pillar of the community.

Professionally, Stephen made significant contributions to aerospace as a Structural Fabrication Technician, with a distinguished career that included pivotal roles at Boeing, Douglas Aviation, and Rockwell. His self-taught expertise in metal fabrication and component assembly earned him recognition during the Space Shuttle program, where he played a crucial role in developing and troubleshooting the shuttle bay doors.

On February 8, 2012, Stephen married the love of his life, Sally Miller, in Brooken, Oklahoma. Their marriage flourished for thirteen joyful years, marked by companionship and shared passions.

Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Sally; sons, Stephen Ward of New York and David Ward of Tahlequah; daughters, Lisa Voth of Broken Arrow and Jennifer Ward of Tulsa; brother Michael R. Ward of Owasso; a host of grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Zelpha Ward, sister Sharon G. Patten, brother Clarence J. Ward, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Stephen Richard Ward will be remembered for his remarkable talents, unwavering determination, and the love he shared with family and friends. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
