Robert J Getchell Sworn In as District Judge

On July 24, 2025, Robert J. Getchell was officially sworn in as the District Judge for Office 1 of Oklahoma’s 24th Judicial District, a region encompassing Creek, Okfuskee, and Okmulgee Counties. The ceremony took place in Courtroom 1 on the third floor of the Creek County Courthouse in Sapulpa, the largest city in Creek County and a central hub for the district’s legal proceedings. Appointed by Governor J. Kevin Stitt on July 1, 2025, Getchell’s transition to the bench marks a significant milestone in his nearly four-decade legal career, bringing his extensive expertise to serve communities across municipalities like Beggs, Bixby, Glenpool, Jenks, Liberty, Mounds, Sapulpa, and Winchester.

Getchell, a seasoned Tulsa attorney, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. With a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Juris Doctor from Oral Roberts University, earned in 1982 and 1985 respectively, he has built a formidable reputation in real estate law, bankruptcy, and litigation. Over nearly 40 years, Getchell served as a staff attorney and general counsel for abstract and title companies for almost two decades, mastering complex real estate transactions, title examinations, and property rights disputes. His litigation prowess includes representing major banks and corporate clients in foreclosures, title insurance claims, and adversarial proceedings in both state and bankruptcy courts.

Among his notable achievements, Getchell was recognized by Best Lawyers in America for seven consecutive years as “Lawyer of the Year” in real estate and bankruptcy law, a testament to his professional excellence. He also earned a Distinguished rating from Martindale-Hubbell in 2021, reflecting high regard from his peers for his ethical standards and legal acumen. Additionally, Getchell received Avvo’s Top Contributor and Client’s Choice awards, underscoring his commitment to client service. His seven-year tenure on the Oklahoma Abstractors Board, including a term as chairman, further highlights his leadership in shaping the state’s abstract industry.

A long-time Tulsa resident, Getchell has deep ties to the region, having lived there for over 46 years with his wife, Christie, and their eight children.
